The walleye action has slowed somewhat in Saginaw Bay, but some limit catches are still being reported, especially down near the Black Hole and further into the bay. Some real nice fish are being taken between Pt. Augres and south of the wreck in 26 feet of water. Several 5 to 7 pound walleye were brought into the local fish cleaning station. Anglers fishing near-shore reef areas around the bay were also taking good fish late in the week.
Perch are also beginning to show up in 30 to 40 feet of water in the Pt. Augres area; as a result, many locals have stopped fishing walleye and switched over to perch.By the end of the month, perch fishing will be in full swing.
Tawas reported some pretty good walleye fishing for 3 to 4-pound fish from Alabaster towards Tawas Point. No reports of salmon or trout.
Oscoda anglers having been taking some dandy steelhead in the 6 to 8-pound class and good numbers of lake trout in 114 to 130 feet of water. The steelhead are all being taken on lead core, at least 10 colors run off in-line planer boards. Walleye and good numbers of catfish are also being caught in the first mile or so from the river mouth inland.
