Walleye action remains excellent from Au Gres all the way down to Pinconning. The best action out of Au Gres was in 28 to 30 feet of water on either side of the shipping channel, and the bite was on crawlers run 35 to 50 feet back using In-line sinkers and Off shore Trolling Boards. The Au Gres area also produced bigger fish with very few throwbacks.
South of Pt. Au Gres, excellent catches of 16 to 24-inch walleye were taken in depths as shallow as 10 feet and as deep as 20 feet. Crawlers were the norm and run using harnesses and 1-ounce in-line sinkers 24 to 35 feet behind the Off Shore Boards. I know a couple of anglers who also did well on 1/4-ounce Hot ‘N Tots, and another friend took his limit pulling Little Zippers on the east side of Buoy One at the mouth of the Saginaw River. The water is still cold–62.4 degrees and virtually all the fish were in the top ten feet of the water column. However, we did pull five dandy walleye using bottom bouncers just “ticking the bottom”.
