Hey, everybody.
With the weather staying on the warm side, the bite that usually starts to slow down heading into August, seems to have not suffered very much at all. In fact the deep water bite success has recovered some this past week, with the shallow bite staying consistant as well. My brother Dave and I got to fish a couple of days in his new boat in very shallow waters (5 to 7 feet) last week and limited out both times. But good reports are coming from waters anywhere from 17 to 27 feet, with crankbaits finally taking their equal share of the walleyes caught. Perch have also made a surprise appearence straight out of Linwood Beach Marina in 17 to 19 FOW. Many of the walleye trollers have been reporting as many perch boated as walleyes in this specific area in the last week, and their size’s impressive as well. With the short term weather forecast calling for near or above day time temps, the walleye bite should remain decent for at least through August. But as September rolls around, experienced Bay fishermen know all bets are off. Some years it stays good 2 weeks into September, others not so good. This can of course change, as did this years historic and overall fishing patterns from the past few. At least they did for me. As usual, here’s a few pictures of some recent catches from the bay. And as always, stay safe, fish smart and tight lines.
