Harbor Beach MI Fishing Report 08-05-2009

lake-huron-2Lake Trout fishing is picking up with some being taken in 80 to 130 feet of water North of the harbor, as well as out as deep as 150 feet of water using dull silver Dodgers with the green body, white wing spin and glows fishing close to the bottom.  Also try yellow, gold, orange with yellow and black or green colors for best results.  If the fishing is slow try using some plain spoons off the downriggers and speed up some, the copper with orange and black, gold, and green colors have still been working best.

Walleye fishing is picking up again as well.  Try fishing North of the harbor with the crawler harness and hot and tots, and small to medium size spoons.  I would start trolling in 25 or 30 feet of water and work out to the deeper waters.  They have been setting in the upper sections of water first thing in the morning and lower as the sun comes up.  Some were taken in the 120 foot of water areas 50 foot down with spoons.  Long lines or the ten color lead lines have still been working best.  Best colors continue to be the copper, orange, green, blueberry muffin, and yellow colors straight or with small blades in front.

Steelhead action has also picked up, with some nice ones reported out as deep as 150 feet of water.  I would suggest stopping in 125 feet of water and trolling out to the deeper water.  Find those color lines and you should do good, troll those bright color pinks and orange Dreamweaver lures for best results back 150 feet off the Offshore Boards.  Remember if they are on a slow bite, try speeding up more than usually, it usually works!

A few Salmon are being taken mixed in while fishing for the Lake Trout and Steelhead. Try some Spin Doctors and Action Flys off the Dipsey Divers back 150 feet.  Spoons are  also working off the downriggers and dipsey divers,  black with glow oval color have been working, also try blueberry muffin, or the green or blue alewive colors.  Try out in the 80 to 135 foot of water areas and work out to the deeper depths.  They have still been setting in the top 70 feet of water.
Bass fishing is still very good casting around the weed beds inside the harbor and close to shore North and South of the harbor.

Perch fishing is still slow but a few are being taken off the walkway at the swim beach and South of the harbor by the cemetery, or try out in 30 to 60 feet of water using minnows.
Remember to take a kid fishing and make them and yourself some special memories that will last a lifetime!

Keep those lines tight!
