Saginaw Bay Au Gres Fishing Report 8/2/2013

Au Gres Walleye

Au Gres Walleye

Someone once said, “Reports of my demise are highly untrue.”  Equally so with some recent walleye reports from Saginaw Bay.  In spite of some rather unstable weather, limit catches of some really nice fish are still being taken. Fishing south of Pt. Augres on Tuesday in 30 to 31 feet of water, we took a three party limit but had to work for them.  Wednesday and Thursday were weather cancels, but today, in spit of some rough seas, taking a limit was relatively easy in 22 to 26 feet, as it was for several other boats who toughed out the weather.  Harnesses with crawlers worked best for us using two-ounce in-line weights 40 to 55 feet back.

The water temperature in the area we have been fishing is staying right at 71 to 72 degrees.  There are plenty of bait fish and no real reason for walleye to leave the bay.
Safety tip: be sure to monitor the weather channel on your marine radio.  We were just pulling lines when a “weather alert” encouraged boaters to “seek shelter immediately!”Capt. Terry Walsh
