Saturday, July (?) 18 — Pt. AuGres Walleye Action
Someone tell me this isn’t July weather! It has definitely slowed the walleye bite somewhat, but in spite of today’s 61 degree temps a good catch of walleye was taken though the fish were much smaller for whatever reason. Crawlers and Walleye Poppers as well as metal blades did the trick. Just remember, cold fronts will put the fish down so this is also a good time to use bottom bouncers fished slow (1-1.4 MPH)and close to or bouncing right along the bottom. Suspended fish that we had been targeting were nonexistent. Today’s catch also came in the 20 foot depth instead of the deeper 30-foot plus we had been fishing. Best blade colors were purple prism, chartreuse, and wonderbread, worked well with the heavy cloud cover.
Up until this cold front moved in last Monday, this fishing had been short of phenominal, so look for it to shift into high gear when (and if) it warms back up again. Winter coats and long underwear don’t cut it for me in JULY!! So much for Al Gore and his “global warming” theory.
